My question involves traffic court in the State of: California
I got a speeding ticket in LA back in February 2014(doing 50 at a 25 zone). I was also stupid enough to completely forgot to pay the ticket afterwards and missed the court date altogether which was set in April.
Just last week I found this old ticket sitting inside a drawer and I freaked out. I first checked online at LA Superior Court and DMV website using both the ticket number and my driver license number. But nothing could be found and my driving record was clean. So finally I went to the court in person and let the clerk run my driver's license in their system. Still there's no record of anything. I did not give out the ticket nor ticket number though. Because I didn't want to bring this to their attention if somehow the police officer's original ticket was lost or anything. I have not received any letters to date either. No court notice, no license suspension notice, no failure to appear notice, no nothing. It's like the ticket doesn't exist at all.
So now I am seriously confused. What do I do now? Just ignore the ticket and move on? Or turn myself in to the local police? I read somewhere on this forum that after one year from the original offense date, the status of limitation will expire? Am I off the hook if there is still no record in their system by February 2015? What do you recommend me to do right now?
Thank you very much for your help and any input!
