Same Sex Couple Wanting to Visit the U.S.

We have no desire to reside in the U.S. None whatsoever. Our life is here in Argentina. Yes. I have a family member (U.S.) who purchased the plane tickets. Our intention is to visit my parents....one in FL, the other in NC. Both my parents are nearing 80. My father is USMC retired. I have a brother active duty colonel. All my family can attest that we have no desire to live in the U.S. Why would we? Our life is great here. I simply want my partner to meet my father. She is an only child. She won't leave her parents.

Those are all good reasons to discuss with the consulate when your partner applies for the visa.

She should apply in plenty of time so that if it is denied on the first attempt, another can be made. Report back about the experience.

Some of the other forum catering primarily to South Asians have a lot of information about applying for a tourist visa. Since those families have similar financial situations to yours, you may find useful information about the interview expectations.

Interesting that the email notification I received regarding your post said: "So the plane ticket fairy is funding your trip or did a money tree grow in the back yard?"

Change your mind or did you actually read what I posted? In fact, the plane tickets were purchased for us by my mother. I'm turning 50 this year and it's a birthday present, if you must know.

You may find you have passport problems since you have "no" source of income, yet have lived out of the country for years. Your friend may have issue getting a visa since she apparently has no job, home or other reason to return to her country.

I also believe you'll have a hard time answering questions satisfactorily when you enter the country.

(Or rather, you'll be fine - your beloved, not so much)

The fact that it was your mother who paid for the tickets doesn't help you at all; since you haven't paid for them yourself, it's no skin off of your nose if you don't use the return portion.

Why would I have passport problems? It's a valid passport and I haven't broken any laws. There are millions of expats living all over the world. Do they all have a problem entering their own country with a valid passport? I came to this forum seeking help and enlightenment. Let me rephrase.

Your mother bought your tickets.
Therefore you didn't pay for your tickets.
Therefore there's no particular incentive for you to utilize the "return" portion of the tickets, given that you won't be losing money since you didn't pay for them to begin with.
