Default Protecting Your Credit from an Unpaid Debt You Didn't Know About

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California

A medical lab, put me on collections. I did not know I owed them money, thought the insurance took care of it. I found out today, they put me on collections. I didn't realize the debt collectors was rude. I just told them not to contact me. So I called Primex, they told me they sent me letters, but I did not get any that I recall. They had my cell number (my doctor office uses) I asked them why didn't you call, I could have made a payment over the phone it's a silly amount. Plus I'm not sure what the debt is, I don't think i had any labs done for over two years.

So Primex, instead of calling me and telling me I owed money, put me on collections. I don't won't my credit harmed. Trying to buy a house.

so research the debt to see if it is valid and if so, pay it. Problem solved.

I think you missed the part where they are wrongly hurting my credit.

No, didn't miss it at all. If the debt is valid, they are not wrongly hurting your credit.

so, research to determine if the debt is valid and pay it if it is and dispute it if it isn't.

So, it's perfectly legal for someone to put me on collections and ruin my credit without telling me in the first place I owe them money?
