A lock on your door. Your stuff in your bedroom. Calling 911 if anyone threatens or attempts to harm you or commit any crime. Having as little contact as possible, and what contact you have, you smile and be pleasant, even if you are raging inside and wishing they were dead. Until your lease is up, then you get OUT. But as has already been stated, if you're in fear for your LIFE (which is a little strange to ponder if you've already attempted killing yourself, isn't it?), then you do whatever you have to do to save yourself, and then deal with any financial consequences IF they ever materalize, at a later date and from a safe place. If you know this person has a past history of being unhinged, then you do everything you can to not set them off. If they get set off anyway, you get law enforcement involved (which again, is only going to deal with the immediate safety issue). Start saving everything you can NOW, in anticpation of getting out, ASAP. If you want to get out NOW, nothing stopping you except the possiblity that they'd come after you for the rent. The faster you save, the faster you can pre-pay your share for the term of the lease and leave (that's really the only way you'll get out without potential financial liability - but LIFE liability is SO much more important).
