Default Speeding Ticket in Norway Europe

    Hi.

I have recently visited Norway for a week and unfortunately I received a speeding ticket. I thought I wasn't going the speed the officer indicated (about 80km/h which is about 50mph for 60km/h limit zone) but he insisted his measurement was accurate. We argued and he said that he could put me in jail, if I don't accept the ticket! I just had no time to waste so I signed the ticket and he put down my info from my Driver's license. He said I have to stop by at a particular bank to pay the fine, but I didn't have time to go or find there and then came back US.
A few weeks later, I got a letter from Norway that I still have to pay for it.

Can I fight for it? Is it worth it?
Or if I ignore the warning what could happen?
I have no plan to go back to the country for now.

This very issue arises often with people that participate in the European delivery programs offered by BMW and Mercedes Benz. Based upon anecdotal information I've read, I don't think there's a single thing they can do to you....as long as you don't go back.

Maybe someone with firsthand knowledge will reply. Personally, if there isn't a lot of money involved, I would probably go ahead a pay it. In Germany and Austria, you would have had to pay it on the spot.

    Thank you for your advice.
Yeah, I would pay the fine for my peace of mind if the amount isn't so much. But they are asking for almost US$500 now (and it will keep rising I suppose)plus I have to wiretransfer the fund to a bank in Norway which will cost me another $50. For a speeding ticket? I don't think so...
I just want to know if there is a chance that they can hand this over to a collecting agent in the US which will start bothering me.

I highly doubt it but I don't pretend to know. Before you make your decision, you might want to log into one of the car forums (both BMW and Mercedes owners have more than one, each). Find the section that deals with European delivery and ask the question...I'm pretty sure you'll get some answers based upon past experiences.

I used to use www.bimmerfest.com when I was in the process of buying my car and they have a separate section for European delivery. A lot of the people are snobs but you'll get some answers, I feel sure.
