Thank you "jk" for your opinion. She didn't damage the product, just removing the ribbon from the box, which I agree was not right. But originally they gave her boxes with damaged ribbons and didn't replace them; although I do agree this still doesn't justify taking the ribbon without permission.
Yes, she did damage the product because the packaging is part of the product.
if the ribbons were an issue when she purchased them then she should not have purchased them. The fact she did does not give her a right to take somebody else's ribbons

Hi "cbj", she did ask about the damaged ribbons but no help was offered and she was told that since nothing more is available at that time she has to wait till new packages arrive to purchase (I.e. Purchasing the whole box)

At which time, she had the option to not make her purchase at that time, but to wait until the new ones came in. No one was holding a gun to her head forcing her to buy them at that time.

I don't mean this to be nasty, but she's got no one to blame her but herself.

I bet, had the sister actually just sat down and called Godiva, they would have sent an envelope FULL of ribbons. Instead, she became a thief.

When you remove something from the packaging, it is damaged. They should have charged her. A criminal record would be a good reminder not to do this again.

If you want a professional consultation, you go pay a professional.

I meant professional " ATTITUDE" and " LANGUAGE" !!! And I didn't address you, unless Budwise and you are the same user.

This is a site staffed by laymen, and volunteers, at that, so you get whatever answers you get.

I can read the terms and regulations here too and I know that.

Maybe I should start charging a nickel every time some poster whines about "professional" here...I could retire next week.

Maybe "I" should start charging a nickel every time some poster misunderstand the meaning of "professional attitude and language" here....

Yes, she did damage the product. Tampering with and stealing part of the packaging is considered damage to the product.
The original package and product was not damaged.

It doesn't matter if the box was broken or split or discolored.

She removed part of the packaging. By doing so, she damaged the package.

She removed the ribbons, which are part of the packaging, rendering the packaging incomplete. That, whether you like it or not, is damaging the package.

Why are you trying to justify her actions? She damaged, then STOLE someone else's property, and she's mighty damned lucky her spoiled little self didn't get taken to court over it. You're not going to find any sympathy for thieves here.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. We went there and she talked and apologized again; everything's good now and her record was not affected, and surely there was a lesson to learn. All the best to everyone.
