Default How Does a Small Town Hire a Prosecutor

We are a small village in se Missouri and just getting our police force started(1 officer). I'm looking for any info on how to find a prosecutor to represent the town 1day a month and what the normal fees would be.

Contact some similarly situated towns. Odds are they contract with law firms and can both share their contracts, fees, and refer you to firms that do this type of work.

Many times a prosecutor will be a lawyer from the area, yet not the city. As part of his contract, he agrees not to be involved in issues (take clients) that would create a conflict of interest. 15 to 20 miles away is a good distance to obtain a quality lawyer who will minimize his lost cases. As Mr K noted, contacting a few local cities for contract examples is an excellent idea.

Run a help wanted ad on Craigslist.

I would say local small towns rather than cities.

Most states have municipal leagues or city associations, that can provide guidance and resources for small and mid sized cities. Start your effort here:

    Good luck in your work.
