I recently moved out of an apartment where I had a dog. I had permission to have him, as managment only allows cats. He had his occasional accident, which I promptly cleaned up. Upon moving out, I cleaned the house immaculately. I used a carpet cleaner with Tide HE to clean the carpet, knowing full well that they'd hire a professional company to clean them and subtract that from my deposit. My management is now saying that I owe them $700.00 for new carpets. They said that they used a "black light" and located pet stains all over the apartment. I read that black lights also fluoresce laundry detergent. I offered to professionally clean the carpets, to which they said no. That a professional company couldn't get the urine out of the pads. Is that true? No where in my lease does it say I have to replace the carpets. I do have to pay for necessary repairs, but don't consider this necessary..HELP!!! I don't know if it matters, but I live in South Dakota.
