My question involves criminal law for the state of: MN
I work at a Liquor Store. So I sold a six pack of beer to someone. Maybe a half hour later the police comes by and ask if I sold a six pack of beer to guy with a ponytail. I, stupidly, say yes. The police tells me he is writing me up. He doesn't give me anything at the time - no paper, doesn't arrest me, no written charge of offense. 2 months later, I get a summons to appear in court for a notice of hearing regarding a complaint that I sold alcohol to an intoxicated person. It is a gross misdemeanor.
I have a clean record so I don't even know where to begin. I'm assuming I should lawyer up. I know the officer tried to come into the store and ask for video tape of that day but the video was deleted by the time he asked. Besides getting my own lawyer what should I do?
