Default What is the Process for Changing a Child's First Name

My question involves name change laws in the State of: CT
My husband and I want to change the first name of our son as it now has extreme negative connotations. I have the Application for a Change of Name (Minor) form, but am confused as to what the 'Minor Petitioners through Parents as Next Friend' is all about. Is this something I need a lawyer for or can I just file forms with the probate court?

    Thanks.

A minor can't file a court case, so they need an adult "next friend" to file on their behalf. If you have standard forms to file on behalf of your child, I would expect that they would include a provision for you to be appointed as next friend.
