Exclamation What to Do After a Child Runs Away

My question involves guardianship in the State of: Washington and/or Conneticut

    Facts:
Son 16 years old sophomore in High Shool in Washington State
Took Greyhound bus yesterday headed to Conneticut to be with Boyfriend
Lied to Boyfriends parents stating he was an emancipated minor
Threatened to cut off all contact if we attempted to stop him

He ran away in the middle of the night, we located him before his bus left but after discussion and threats we did not stop him from taking the bus.

I don't know what the best course of action is and/or what will be best to limit my legal libilities if anything happens while he is in Conneticut?

I do know that my son and his boyfriend have lied to his parents to allow my son to stay with them. He has stated that he is a legal emancipated minor. Again my son says if we contact them he will cut off all contact but this is putting them at risk as well.

I just want an idea of what I should be doing to protect us, his Parents, him and his boyfriend and parents. I don't know what the legal ramification are in Conneticut.

I am not a lawyer, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

If you knew that he was running away and didnt try to stop him, that right there is your first problem. Second, if you know the boyfriend's parents, then you need to call and let THEM know that he is NOT legally emancipated yet, and that they should return your son to you, so as to avoid getting into trouble, too.

I would speak to a lawyer, first, before taking any steps. He is still a minor, and therefore, technically, YOUR responsibility. If anything happens while he is at CT, that would be YOUR problem, too.

If you let him run away, and are worried about the ramifications AFTER the fact, this may not resolve well for you, or for anyone involved in this mess.

You enabled your child to runaway!!! They call that granting permission. I don't see law enforcement getting involved in your foolishness. Go to CT and get your son. If his boyfriend is over 18, he can potentially be charged with Mann Act violations.

Hell...my grandparents knew if I got up to pee at 3 am. They knew I was back in bed at 3:05.....there was no way for me to sneak out the window....

No, I'm just saying I had no chance of sneaking out, they were aware of any noise at all.

    LOL. I'm not awake yet.

Because before I moved in with them, my friends were all sneaking out to drink, smoke, screw. So they made darn sure there was no way I was going to be another teen pregnancy statistic. It really did annoy me at times "You got up twice last night". Point being....there's no way in Hell I would have made it out the window or door, let alone to the Greyhound station.

I had a friend that ran away and called to ask for a ride to a juvenile shelter...they even hid the car keys.
