Default Consenting to Stepparent Adoption After Divorce

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: SC
I have a friend who is divorced and has had some low points in his life. His ex-wife is wanting him to sign over the rights to his children so her husband and adopt. His lawyer told him to do it and then to get it over turned. This doesn't sound right to me...is there any advice?

Yeah. He needs to run away fast.

That doesn't even make sense. Unless the "plan" is to go through with the adoption then get it overturned...because someone thinks he'll see his child while not being obliged to pay child support. Not only is this stupid, it's ridiculous and will never, ever happen.

He see his children now. I thought it was odd when he said his lawyer told him to sign the forms.

Maybe his attorney knows something you don't.

That makes no sense whatsoever. Not only should he run, but I would also suggest he get a consultation with a different lawyer. Do you know WHY his current lawyer advised him to do this?

If he wants to maintain his rights and see the children, as well as continue to pay support, he doesn't need a second opinion. He can say "No, I won't consent to adoption," and continue to exercise his rights and fulfill his responsibilities.
