My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
OK, this is going to sound super suspect and like I'm doing that thing where I don't give all the information to make things sound worse but this is really what's going on...
OK, we signed a lease on March 27th, I believe for a lease to commence April 1st.
April 1st. comes and goes with no word.
On the 2nd our agent reaches out to the owner's agent.
On the 3rd the owner's agent informs us that they hope to have a signed lease to us soon but there are some things that need to be attended to.
On the 3rd our agent reaches out to ownership and is told by the owner that the lease has been signed and he doesn't know where it is but he thinks his agent has it still. He says if we get an insurance certificate to his property manager we can be given keys (which our agent had in his possession) and start moving in.
On the 4th we provide the insurance to his property manager. We reach out to try to get the owner to give us one last word that we can take control of the premises but have heard nothing. We were given the keys by our agent but our agent is worried that something stupid might happen.
So are we.
Just where do we stand in this process? Do we have a lease? I feel like we don't and if we take control as agreed a problem will arise.
