    Default Renunciation of Citizenship

    Nationality Act includes a section and bunch of clauses on how citizenship can be lost.

    (6) making in the United States a formal written renunciation of nationality in such form as may be prescribed by, and before such officer as may be designated by, the Attorney General, whenever the United States shall be in a state of war and the Attorney General shall approve such renunciation as not contrary to the interests of national defense;

    Is this clause in effect? Who are the officers? Would the person doing this be deported?

    The US hasn't been in a state of war since 1945.

    Wikipedia on Renunciation Act article is wrong?
    Can someone end their citizenship from inside prison some other way like working for a foreign government? Is the inability to end citizenship while incarcerated common through out other jurisdictions?

    This question did case me think about what the op is doing though. It made me wonder that if successful in renouncing his citizenship, would he be treated as any other non-citizen that is in the US illegally?
    i would think that upon his completion of his incarceration he would be subject to deportation. My question then is: where would he be deported to?

    After all, while he would no longer be a citizen of the US, he would not be a citizen of any country. He would not be accepted into any country as he could not obtain a passport nor a VISA so as to leave the US and even be allowed to enter any other country.

    So do you just put him in a little row boat and tow him into international waters and wish him well as you say goodby and leave him there?

    ROFL. Unless he has the cash to buy an abandoned oil platform in international water and start his own country. He could take over the record from Sealand.

    First rule of Internet research: don't believe yahoo answers. Second rule: most yahoo answers answers are not correct.

    If they are correct, it is usually do to the answer being so generic it could apply to
    most any question.

    In either case would not being a USA citizen while incarcerated in USA change anything for the prisoner compared to inmates still citizened (naturalized?) ? For example would international law or treaties apply to only those lacking citizenship?
