Question Can You Recover Attorney Fees if the Other Party Draws Out the Trial

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Michigan

Is it possible to ask for an award of attorney fees in a case where the defendant is purposely dragging out the cross-examination to make the case go on and on? (they have no lawyer, so it doesn't hurt them at all) Thanks.

Yes, at the start of the case in your complaint ... if you did not ask for it there, I don't think it could be added later

You can certainly make a motion for abuse of process, however, it will likely go nowhere as they are entitled to due process. Your lawyer should make the motion.
