My wife and I just finished mediation but neither of us were consulted on any division of assets or child custody, support, etc. I live in Michigan and have 3 children (twin boys 3 1/2) and an 11 month old daughter. Mediation lasted 3 hours. In that time my lawyer and my wifes lawyer met with the mediator (lawyer) in a seperate room and decided themselves how our custody and assets would be divided. My lawyer re-entered and said "ok were done, lets go over it" I was in shock- they agreed on everything for us. I guess my question is: is that how mediation works, (the lawyers decide?) I thought the mediator would ask what I want, then go to her and ask what she wants, then play the back and forth game until we decide what each of us wants.
I meet with my attorney tomorrow, and believe me....Im pissed. I wasnt even allowed to state what I wanted. I talked to my wife and she said the same thing. "they told her (mediator and her attorney)". "this is whats decided". neither of us signed anything due my attorney having to leave for another case. so, wtf is going on here? im confused. what just happened.
