My question involves adoption law for the State of: New York
Yes I have been with my wife 5 years and was looking for some details about adopting my step daughters. I was recently asked by them if I could adopt them and told them it would be my honor. I have been raising them as my own as their fathers have played little to no role in their lives. I know I would have to get their bio dads to sign off on this. I know the one father who pays child support weekly but has no contact with his daughter and only pays so he won't go to jail and has even asked before to sign off all rights should not be an issue to get to sign off. It's the other father who would probably give us issues. Is there a way to go around him to do it. He has been in and out of jail and refuses to pay child support. He has little to no contact with his daughter and would probably refuse to sign off out of spite. So if anyone can offer some advice the mrs and I would greatly appreciate it.
