My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Illinois
Long story short, my roommate owes me 5 month's worth of utilities bill (around $400). He told me he'll pay it back once he got a job, and now that he has a job, he changed his mind and won't pay because he thinks the apartment is too "dirty" (even though he never cleans himself). I changed the internet wifi password and turned off the gas, and he says he won't pay rent anymore also.
We have about 3 more months on our lease, my question is am I allowed to sue him for the rent and utilities money for the next 3 months in court? It's because I don't have the money to cover his portion of the rent/utilities. I'm planning on suing him for the $400 utilities portion, can I add on the future rent and estimated utilities on top? Or would I have to wait 3 months until I have proof he really had no intention of paying?
