My question involves bankruptcy in the state of: California
I am currently in the process of filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the state of CA. As I have just received my tax return, I have used $3000 to buy a used car from a friend. Per my attorney, I will need to tell the trustee what I did with my tax return money. I have a receipt from the seller stating I paid $3000 for the car. Because the seller is a friend of mine, they allowed me to register the vehicle stating I paid only $1500 instead of $3000, so I wouldn't have to pay a lot in taxes as I am low on money due to paying for the bankruptcy. My question is: Does bankruptcy court/trustee have access to DMV records? I'm afraid that they will question why I told the DMV I paid $1500 for the car instead of $3000. Do they have any way of finding out this information? or will they only go off of the receipt of sale that I got from the seller?
