Default Life Insurance and Divorce Decree

A irrevocable beneficiary was name in a divorcee for any existing company provided life insurance policy. No further forms were signed besides the divorcee decree. Since then the policy also has changed with the company and a new beneficiary was named. Can the divorcee override the now named beneficiary?

You will research the laws of the state in which the divorce occurred, as well as those of the state whose laws govern the contract of insurance. It seems plain, however, that if the beneficiary designation was revoked, that designation was not irrevocable.
