I moved into an apartment with two other roommates. Only one of us are allowed to have our name on the bill (roommate #2 has their parent's name on the bill). We just had a roommate leave and a new one come in, but she has been home more than me and the other roommate (roommate #1) for the first month she was here, therefore, roommate #2 believes that she needs to pay a larger portion of the bill than us (even though we don't know who uses how much of the electricity did each person use). The ill was close to $200 and each of us needed to pay at least $67. I know that in the contract, we are only obligated to pay our exact third. I agreed to pay my exact third and roommate #1 also paid her exact third, but roommate #2 won't pay her part unless roommate #1 pays more (roommate #2 wants to pay $45 and make roommate #1 pay $85). Since she (roommate#2) still hasn't payed at all, even though we explained to her that by law we are all supposed to pay our exact third, the power will be shutting off very soon. In result of roommate #1 not paying more, roommate #2 has also decided to remove her parent's name from the bill so that her parent's credit isn't affected....should roommate #1 go to the landlord? What can happen in a situation like this and is she even allowed to take her name off the bill without paying it at all? Wouldn't she be running away with the $134 we gave her?(I had explained my opinion in a professional matter about it with roommate #2 and evidently they believes that it's none of my business so I was cut from the situation as much as possible and I had no idea that the bill hadn't been paid yet). I'm really angered and stressed out about the situation since I'm a full time student and I have a part time job so I have very limited time to do everything regarding school and everything is on the internet (technology these days
) and we would be stuck in a very cold house since it can get to -2 degrees at night! I really need a peace of mind of how this situation could be taken care of! Thanks for the help!
