My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: IOWA

I worked for a Chevy dealership as a salesman and interviewed at a competing Chevy dealership for a management position. Between my 4th and 5th interview they hired someone for the management position. They stated they knew that the person they hired wouldn't stay more than a few months. They wanted to hire me as a salesman and just shadow this manager while he was their as he did have more experience than I did. Once the manager would leave I would step into that position. I accepted the position based on the promotion to management per my agreement with the General Manager.

The manager quit after only one week of me being their. The GM stated he wanted me to just hang loose for a month or so as two other internal employees interviewed for that job that I was promised. After being there a little bit it would soften the blow. During the 6 weeks I worked as a salesman I kept my ideas I was going to put in place to myself as I didn't trust the GM. As little as 10 days ago I had a discussion with the GM stating that we were still tracking for my placement into the management position. Just this week they hired someone else for the job that I left my previous dealership for.

I wouldn't have left my other dealership if I wasn't promised a position in management at the other company. If I have documentation that I was promised that position as a part of changing dealerships do I have some type of legal recourse?

Thanks in advance!
