    Default Clogged Pipes

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: indiana

My son is living in a rental house with 2 other male roommates, we have just been informed the landlord is going to charge us $1900.00 account of clogged pipes. He is saying the pipes were clogged with prophylactics and ladies personal hygiene items. Are tenants responsible for clogged pipes? How do I know if those items weren't already there when my son moved in? Tree roots? A good pipe snake would have solved the problem, $1900.00?

if they clog the pipes with materials the septic system was not designed to accommodate; yes.

because the pipes weren't clogged when they move in.

$1900 does seem excessive but a good pipe snake would have solved the problem? Don't you need somebody to operate the thing? They have value as well. But with that, I would attempt to speak to the company that did the work to see if there was something other then the condoms and feminine hygiene products.

Suffice it to say, these things do get clogged and believe it or not a good ol' shake with the snake doesn't always clear things up.

Put it this way. After the last one left home, it cost us a hefty penny to get the dratted pipes cleared of things our girls Wouldn't Want Us To Mention.

It's not an old property, either. It just wasn't keen on housing whatever the heck it was getting stuck down there.
