My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Virginia
Recently I applied online to lease an apartment in a new complex. The lease price was listed at $1195 per month for that unit along with a few others in the building. It is a great deal for the area so I jumped on it, signed online for the rental application and paid my application fee.
After waiting a few days for the status of my application to be accepted, I called the property to check on it. They informed me that this unit is only available for an Affordable housing program and could not give me the same rate ( quoted me around $2300 instead).
On the web site, application and terms and conditions it never mentions these stipulations for the unit (I went back and double checked). As far as the rental requirements I check all the boxes: enough income, great rental history, great credit score, etc.
At the minimum I feel like this is a bait and switch. I feel if they have a website with prices and a lease online option, they should be responsible to make sure the information is correct and up-to-date.
Is there any recourse I have to try and get an apartment for the price that I applied for?
