Will You Get Charged for Fleeing From the Police

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

My friend got pulled over a few days ago, got scared and drove away and the police didn't catch him. He wants to know if they had his license plate number how they would go about finding him? Would they have already went to his house? Do they issue an arrest warrant before going to his house? Would they eveb go to his house at all but still issue a warrant? How long would it take to procure an arrest warrant if they did have his license plate number?

Any of those things is possible. Most likely the reason is the cop he dumped on isn't the one whose following up or he has other things more pressing.

There's a good chance they'll have the cuffs on him within the next couple of days.

He would be better off hiring a lawyer and getting in front of this.

The offense of fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer is a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois. The penalty can be up to one year in jail and the court can order the defendant to pay a fine of $2,500

Plus, whatever they hit him with for the traffic offense.
