Default How do Store Trespass Bans Work

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin

Something I wanna go over about, I read a news report about a Arizona man who was banned from all Wal-Marts world-wide. It is said that he received a letter from Wal-Mart stating his banned of ALL Wal-Marts world-wide. Even if you were only told to be banned from your local Wal-Mart, so to my question, in order to be banned from ALL Wal-Mart world-wide you must received a letter from Wal-Mart's Inc. headquarters?

No, the stores can and do issue chain-wide bans to thieves on the spot in the stores. The guy who got the "price matching" ban just got it from corporate because they were the ones who made the decision.

So another question I want to ask, lets say a person is told he/she can no longer shop at their local Wal-Mart and was also notified the cities listed down of the other Wal-Marts away from where he/she lives, plus that person never received a letter stating the banned to ALL Wal-Mart. Is that person safe to shop at another Wal-Mart that is not told on restrictions?

The shoplifter may not receive a letter in the mail. They likely signed the Trespass Ban Notice when they were detained in the LP office. If they need to find out if they can shop at a WalMart anywhere, they need to call the store they stole from and ask for the LP department and get clarification. If they do go into a WalMart and are banned from there, they can be arrested for Criminal Trespass.

If you must shop at Wal-Mart, shop online. Then you don't have to worry about it.

There's no need to do that. I can give him the answer. The standard, preprinted, WalMart ban letter that LP has covers EVERY STORE in the chain or as they put it "all Wal-Mart Stores Property" and goes on "to include all WalMart retail locations." If he receives one of these letters it will be clear. He is banned entirely from WalMart everywhere and NO it does not have to come from the corporate office. These are handed out not just to thieves but to protesters and other people the local managers have decided don't meet the high standards of walmart custoemrship

Forgot to mention, I never received a letter about my banned letter, it was more like I was told in person to NOT enter my local Wal-Mart and that was it. Never mention anything about banned world-wide.

And about that, nope I never received any letter like that at all, just a Asset Recovery Protection letter.

    Doesn't matter.

For all you know the store has video surveillance and facial recognition software that can pick you out of a crowd in a heartbeat. Push the envelope if you like but if you get caught you don't get a do-over.
