My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California and Nevada.

My first question is that I lived in Nevada and moved back to California. My ex-roommate still lives in Nevada. Which court which I have to appear at? Nevada, I believe, just wanted to double check.

As I was saying I lived in Nevada and was on a one year lease. I needed to leave because of family issues and I wasn't sure if I could pay my portion of the bills. I had a few other reason as well, such as the whole house smelled of cat pee, she would tell me she smoked weed, stole alcohol from her parents and just brought weird, rude people over. So I signed myself off the lease and told my roommate what was going on and said she would sign it and talk to them. She never texted me till a few days after, saying that I'm still on the lease and she's not signing me off of it. She told me I put her in a bad situation with money, mind you her parents pay everything for her and I would give her rent and she would buy clothes with it, because her parents paid the whole thing, but besides the point. I didn't reply and last week I got a text saying that I need to pay her February rent and half the buy out fee so she could leave too otherwise she is suing me for $5000. The buyout fee and rent is, $1600 which I would not have by next month. I did not sign an agreement stating I would pay half the rent, just the lease. Which I believe is that someone just needs to pay the whole rent.

My question is that, I have no idea what to do. I don't have that money. I don't know if I have a case. I did not want to stay to burden her and I couldn't be around that environment. Should I offer to help find a roommate, which she will decline?

Please help, if you can.
