My question involves name change laws in the State of: RI
Child is 13 months old. An order in in place and through legal action, the last name was changed to the "Mother-Father" format.
Mother is engaged, and has been since the child was 3 weeks old. She should be married when the child is aged 15 mos, and has asked to change name to "stepdad-biodad". I have refused.
I initiated the legal proceedings at birth and mom desired me to just leave her and her future hubby along to raise my child as theirs. I've had to fight for every bit of my rights to my child and want to be an active part in his life, and have evidence of alienation in the way of social media postings referring to future step-dad as "dad". Am I in the right here to refuse this here?
What is typically done here? I suggest a change to only my last name? What would a court do?
