Default Changing My Daughters Last Name the Father is Not and Hasnt Been in Her Life

My question involves name change laws in the State of: missouri
How do I get my daughters name changed to my name, she is 10 yrs old. The father was only around for a short time at birth then took off, and no contact with my daughter at all. His name is on the birth certificate. Can I even get her name changed? Also, would child support matter in the case of her getting the last name changed? If so, he is about 20,000 behind, and was just recently forced to pay, would that help the situation?

Child support won't make any difference. Dad will be notified and if he doesn't agree, the court will take over.

With her being 10 already, there are two things you should prepare for.

    1. The court deciding that at 10, it's just not in her best interest to change her name.

    2. Dad's being forced to pay might persuade him to actually want to be a part of his child's life.
