My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Ohio
A great friend worked for a very small employer (under 10 employees). The boss' abusive behavior chased away most of the ten - now down to two warehouse employees. My friend was his office manager and as each employee left, she was given the additional work to do of the employees who quit. She was never given a raise in fourteen years and never given sales commissions that she was promised when she took over the sales person's job.
Over the past few years as the business deteriorated, the boss became more and more verbally abusive to the remaining employees. Luckily he was not in the office more than a few hours a week.
After a final verbal explosion last Tuesday, my friend became so nervous, she up and left at lunchtime. She cried for hours and finally decided she wasn't going back.
First question: I'm assuming that if she files for unemployment, he will contest her application. Does she have a right to collect in this case?
Second question: If she can't collect unemployment, should she consider filing charges for verbal abuse?
Thanks.
