I recently posted a landlord-tenant query, and this is a pre-emptory followup to that.
If it turns out that I am unable to be let free from my lease, I will be responsible for both the current rent I am paying and the quite-high amount I paid on the lease in question. I am unemployed due the same medical issue that caused the need for the broken lease, and while I am currently interviewing and may be hired within the week, I have only enough money to my name to pay this upcoming month's rent at my current place of living.
If I file for bankruptcy because of the need to pay rent on the previous lease, what happens to that situation? Is the landlord reimbursed from my assets until such time as he re-rents the property?
Also, I have a loan out on a car, and hardly any other monetary assets. I'm assuming the car would be taken, but if I'm still owing money on it, what happens in that situation as well?
