My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Texas or Arkansas
Hello,
I had an $84.00 radiology bill from 2006-2007. I did not pay it, unfortunately, and heard nothing from them, until now. I recently had tons of tests and consequently big bills. I got a current bill from them, and I paid it, as I am trying to pay everyone in installments. Now they are coming after me for the old balance. I am paying a few thousand and so this old bill is not first on my list. However, they just sent me a letter stating that they were going to investigate my source of income, personal property, assets, etc. They said in order for me to avoid "embarrassment, expensive, and damaging consequences" I should remit payment immediately. The letter mentioned obtaining a judgment and wage garnishment, if possible. It's just $84 so I thought to pay it, but then the manner in which they are seeking it really made me mad. I don't know if they have any legal ground to stand on, or if they are just trying to scare me into paying. The hospital is in Texas, and I live in Arkansas...my city is on both sides of the state line. I researched it, and I read that Texas has a statute of limitations for four years and Arkansas is two. I really want to tell them to shove it, but then again, who wants to risk having a judgment on their credit all over $84? I am not sure what to do.
