I received a certified letter on October 10th, 2006 in Los Angeles, California notifying me of my 120 days to vacate my apartment due to a condominium conversion. In the letter it also stated that I would be receiving $3,450.00 within 15 days of receipt of the letter as 'relocation assistance." It is now November 14th, 2006 and I have not received the money. Also, there are several tenants in the building who never received the letter at all.
Myself, along with several other tenants in the building, are curious about our rights. Many of us residing in the building attended the hearings several months ago and believe that the new owner of the building has and is complying with the law in terms of giving us proper notifications, i.e, external 'Notice of Public Hearing' postings, and mailed documents to all tenants regarding condominium conversion procedures and owner responibilities. However, The owner sent this certified letter on October 10th to only some of the tenants, promising relocation assistance money within 15 days...Yet the money never surfaced!?
Much of my time was wasted during the second half of October looking for another apartment. As it happens, I found an apartment I would have liked to move into during that time, but was unable to provide the prospective landlord with required funds because the relocation money never arrived.
Any feedback on my situation would be greatly appreciated.
