My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: CA (LA County)
I recently received a call from a collection agency notifying me of a debt I owe for my old eBay account, 11 years ago when I had a partnership business; however, the account was under my name. The total amount owed with interest is north of $7,000. This call really came out of the blue, I haven't been called about this, not even once in the past 11 years. I may have been sent a letter notification in the past, it's hard to say as I moved twice, but both in the same city.
Now the eBay account was closed in 2003, and I believe the agent mentioned the debt started collecting as of 2005, which makes it 8 or 9 years ago. How strongly am I protected by the Statute of Limitations? At the time of the call, I had no knowledge of this law. And upon a google search, I found an article stating that acknowledgment of the debt with the collection agency will reset the SOL. I may have in some way or some form acknowledged this, I mean I knew there was some sort of balance remaining from 11 years ago, but I really had no idea it was this large of an amount.
I'd appreciate any help in this matter. What should be my next steps?
