My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Maryland.
I just received a Writ Of Summons for a credit card debt of $900. Last payment made on this
debt was about 18 months ago. In that time, I have lost my job of 20 years (Foreign imports
put our company out of business). Had my home foreclosed on. Exhausted my entire 401k and
bank accounts trying (unsuccessfully) to save my home.
I have been going to school under the TRA/TAA program for the past 7 months with 5 months
left to go. While in school, I do receive $330/week unemployment payment (My only income).
Though I haven't been paid in 2 weeks and counting, awaiting the Unemployment Extension
outcome.
What would be my best course of action? I understand that my unemployment can not be
garnished. I have no bank account anymore. My credit is already shot. If I do get a judgement
against me, how long do they have to apply a garnishment to a future job?
Thanks in advance for any info,
