My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: NC
I work for an international company in the NC office. Times are hard and in October 2013 10 folks in my department were given a severance package with 3 of us left in the office.
Last week I was told there is no billable work for me and do not come to office. I would be given 20 percent of my pay as
a retainer until eligable work is obtained.
I appreciate the offer, but my management told me the company can hold me captive until "whenever" they are ready to let me go. Meanwhile I will be paying my company out of pocket insurance coverage as 20 percent will not pay my coverage part. I have requested a period of one month for the retainer and then give me a package as the other previous employees. My supervisor says mute point. I need to move forward and look for full time work, but if I quit will I lose unemployment eligibility? I need more than 20 percent of my salary. Is there any NC legal stance I have to receive a package as the first 10 Colleagues ? I have been with the company for 25 years. So much for loyalty! Thank-you -20%
