    Default Corporate Credit Card Question

I have a question that I am hoping someone can assist with.

I had a corporate credit card that was past due, my company paid it off for me when I became sick because they said that if it was not paid that the Credit Card company was going to shut off everyone in the company’s corporate cards. Fast forward a year and I am leaving the company. During this period HR or payroll has not asked for any repayment or repayment plan from me. Can my employer retain my last paychecks without any sort of order from the courts or should I just chalk it up as a loss and move on? I am a little confused since 1. I didn’t ask them to pay it and 2. Since they have not asked for repayment of the debt.

And before I am blasted for being a deadbeat nonpayer, I do realize that I owe them the money. I just want to make sure what my legal rights.

    Thank you!

In what state? Did you sign any agreements with your company regarding their rights relating to company credit cards, and if so do you recall what you signed? (This employer permitted personal charges on a company credit card?)

This is the only thing that is stated in the employee hand book... The only items that I have signed was an acknowledgement form for the hand book and the CC application form.

No unauthorized person shall have access to a Corporate credit card, nor any company accounts with nationwide or local vendors. will not be responsible for personal purchases made with corporate credit cards or through a corporate account. Upon termination, employees who have been issued a credit card must return it to the Human Resources department for cancellation.

So you had no authorization to use the company credit card for personal purposes, did so anyway, they paid the bill because you were sick, the deducted the amount you owed from your last paycheck, and... are they giving you a good reference? You may wish to let sleeping dogs lie.

You were "out of" Illinois - meaning you worked as an employee of an office the company had in Illinois? (If not, then what?)

I work in the Chicago branch office. The policy was put into place AFTER all of this occured when a new HR director took over. They have not deducted anything as I am still an employee until 11/24. I am just trying to determine if they can without a judgement.
