My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Texas
I have been living overseas since 2010. I don't plan to return to the US, but I just found out I still have credit card debt from when I was in university. I believe it was about $1,000 and now is about $2,000 because of interest, etc. I haven't had any contact, correspondence, or use of my US bank account or credit card since I left the US. My mom got a notice saying I was being sued for the payment, but they didn't leave the papers with her because she told them I am living overseas. So, I am not sure that I have been officially sued since there has been no official notice.
I want to pay the amount because I know it's the right thing to do. However, I am not actually sure how to go about it? The bank was WellsFargo and it was a Visa card, but I haven't had a bank account or correspondence with them in years. Is there a procedure that I should follow, or should I just call the bank?
Seems like a silly question, but I just want to be sure I'm covering all my bases before I contact them.
Thank you for the advice!
