Default Woman Searched by Male Officers in a Jail Cell

My question involves civil rights in the State of Virginia

I was arrested by 2 male officers for breach of the peace as i was a bit drunk.
I was then asked the risk assesment questions and answered that i had never self harmed and had no intention to do so.
They then took me to a cell with 2 other male officers and a female one and the man took off all my clothing and then i had to show them my body... why..???
They then left me naked in the cell crying and when i asked for clothing, the men came back in my cell and handcuffed me and held my legs open while i was on the floor for about 15- 30 minutes.... i have never been in custody before and i need to know why this happened. i was extremely embarresed to be treated like that. Why did the men keep coming and looking at me and make me spread my legs and get onto my knees with my head on the floor. i was highly embarresed knowing that 4 men could see the bottom half of my body like this for so long.

As you admit you were drunk, I'd imagine there are details missing from this story. They are not going to cuff you and restrain you in the fashion you describe simply for asking for clothing.

Nor are they likely to remove your clothing for you. If a prisoner is cooperating, that usually is not necessary.

Then it would appear that the details missing are the ones we need.

And I don't know why you think that we would know the motives of the police.

We're not called the Psychic Friends Network. The only facts we have about your situation are the ones you choose to share with us.

If you were placed in the general population, a strip search will occur. If you refused to cooperate with the female guard, such that additional guards had to be called in to force your compliance, that would be why the additional guards were present and forcing your compliance.

If you are stripped naked in a jail cell, it is generally because you are considered a danger to yourself and they fear you might use your clothing to hang or otherwise harm yourself. Most jails have a paper suit or a sort of blanket that they can put on you in such situations, but not all.

Since you do not recall all the details, there is no way we can possibly state whether the actions by jail staff were apparently reasonable or not. However, in many facilities it is not uncommon for male officers to also attend such things as stripping a combative or suicidal female suspects because very often there are insufficient female officers on duty to stand by - it's a safety issue.

I suggest you consult with the chief of police and request both the details and to review the video.
