    Default Private Health Care, Employer Insurance, and Medical Assistance

    My question involves child support in the State of: Minnesota

    I recently modified support and within in the order it stated "The Petitioner (me) shall not be required to contribute towards the cost of medical assistance so long as he maintains private health coverage for the joint child."

    I also received paperwork today that was a "Notice of Private Health Care Coverage Obligation and Enforcement" form.

    It appears that they want updated insurance info, however there is language that says "Private health care coverage is health care coverage you purchase other than employer offered health care coverage)

    Does this mean I am paying not only for my insurance for me and my son through my employer but I am to find additional coverage? And if so why?

    Previously I was ordered to pay child support and a provide health insurance, plus pay $95 for public coverage as my son had medical assistance.

    Confused to why I have to pay for MA if I have insurance, or why I have to pay that if he is covered. Plus what do I do about this recent notice?

    Maybe I am overlooking something, but I have read that a few times tonight. What am I missing or not understanding?

    Is the definition of private coverage my employer coverage? Or are they saying that I continue to provide my coverage through the employer, she continues medical assistance, and I add a third insurance that is private coverage?

    If insurance is available through your employer it makes no sense that you would be required to purchase additional coverage.

    We are insured through my husband's employer and it's considered private insurance in that it ISN'T insurance provided through medi-cal, or any other public agency.

    You have insurance for your child through your employer, yes?

    But your latest order says you don't have to contribute anything as long as you have private insurance?

    The answers might change my response - but I hope what I'm thinking has happened hasn't actually happened.

    Yes i do have insurance and have since prior to our divorce. It has not changed and he has always been covered.

    What is ordered is what I have listed "The Petitioner shall not be required to contribute towards the cost of medical assistance so long as he maintains private health coverage for the joint child.

    Please don't panic. For a second, I was rather concerned that you'd effectively agreed to pay for both.

    As it stands though, I do NOT believe that's the case but the wording in the order is a little ambiguous (to me, at least)

    So, I'm going to send a note to a wonderful lady who is actually a child support officer in MN. I'm sure she can clarify further.

    Thank you! I will be contacting the case worker and also seeing if a attorney I worked with will return my call but she hasn't been very good about that even in regards to a current modification of custody.

    As indicated before I was ordered prior to this to pay for my health insurance through work and since my ex had MA I had to pay for that however she also was unable to work. She currently is working part time which allowed me to modify support. Although it went down some, it was better than nothing. This recent letter and wording makes me concerned.
