    Default Red Light Violation Notice Addressed to Unknown Individual with My Registration

    My question involves traffic court in the State of: California

    A red light violation was sent to me via mail and since it was not me, I responded to the city with a copy of my driver's license and a statement that basically said the license doesn't match the person pictured in the notice. I did not wish to identify the driver, so in the letter I invoked my 5th amendment right because it is the court's responsibility to prove guilt. I found out later that this was a snitch ticket that I did not need to respond to.

    A week later I received an actual ticket sent to my address listing me as the car's registered owner but citing the ticket to someone I have never heard of. The notice for bail was also addressed to this same person who does not live at my address. Will my registration get flagged if I choose to send the same information as I did before letting the court know that the person in the image does not match the ID of the registrant and they are unknown to me?

    Thanks

    Nothing should come about with regards to your registration as a result of this other person being cited. You are also under no obligation to send anything to the court if you don't want to, and I'm not really sure what the court might do with the info if you did send it to them.

    Just curious. Are you talking about a red light "camera" ticket?

    Did you in fact send your drivers' license and a statement in response to this ticket?

    Just for informational purposes;
    I received one of these type of tickets a few years ago in Texas. I received a ticket in the mail with a picture of the vehicle, a description of the violation and methods of payment.

    The ticket came in the mail (not certified and no signature required). I actually, purposely, ignored the ticket for this very reason. About a month later I got another ticket in the mail (not certified). Again I ignored it.
    There was never any hold placed on my license (never expected there would be one as they have no idea who was driving). There was no holds placed on my car registration either (moving violations (atleast in Texas) are attached to the driver and not the car). I still own the car and have never gotten anything further from them and I suspect I never will.

    Not sure how this ticket was mailed to you but this was my experience.

    So as far as you are concerned, Texas laws, rules regulations and procedures apply in California as well??

    Nothing that yo posted applies to the OPs case. Worse yet, you don't even know which county he was cited in and therefore you have no idea whether his court will suspend the registered owner';s license for failing to respond or not.

    Lastly, you should really refrain from trying to help others all while you've got huge challenges with your own case and should probably be utilizing you time figuring out what to do there instead of offering others irrelevant advice!
