My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Florida
I had a doctor's visit in February 2013 and paid without using insurance. I was switching insurance and didn't have my new card yet. I received a 25% discount from the doctor's office since I was paying it all at once. I then filed a claim with my insurance company and was reimbursed, minus my copayment. Now, 10 months later, I have been sent a bill from the doctor's office for the 25% they originally discounted. I called the office and no one seemed to know why I was being billed. When I explained that the total was exactly the 25% they had discounted me earlier, they said maybe it has something to do with my insurance. I fail to see how the reimbursement from my insurance would have anything to do with it if my debt was settled in full with the doctor's office. Is the doctor's office allowed to just reverse a discount? I have my signed receipt that lists the discount on it.
