Default Definition of Joint Physical Custody

I am a little confuse on the jargon, but me and my x share joint physical custody, but the days he is suppose to have the kids he may or may not take them. This is a huge problem with my work schedule, is there any other options or is it that he has no obligation to maintain the weekly visitation schedule. If I just knew ahead of time I could make arrangements for them to be cared for. What should I do, just plan for the worst and hope for the best?

If he's not being consistent with his parenting time, the normal first step would be to explain the situation to him and ask that he be consistent. If that fails, the unfortunate second step would typically be to go to court and seek a modification of the parenting time schedule.
