My question involves paternity law for the State of: New York
Currently I live in Georgia, born in New York, father's name not on the birth certificate however he wants to add his name and I am 26yrs old. I thought it was as simple as completing a affadavit of paternity, having my mom's state license, father's state license and all other information completed however it was returned by vital records. According to the courts I must have a order of filiation. I contacted superior court in my state to get the necessary forms to diy however they are steering me towards getting a lawyer...why??
Can this be accomplished without a lawyer or is a lawyer necessary?
