My question involves guardianship in the State of: Illinois
Hi,
I'm hoping to gain some information and intelligence on my situation at home.
June 1 2013 (give or take a day), My wife and I hear a story of a single mom living in a hotel rm with friends, about to have her kids( boy 6 , girl 8, plus a young baby, and an older boy 11ish, plus her ) taken away. Mom was a known aquaintance to my wife, so we stepped in and took guardianship of the boy, while my sister in law took the girl. We took them in basically with the clothes on their backs, we bought them new everything to get started. when school time came, we enrolled them in private school with our other daughters. and still to this day are doing this completely unassisted by government aid, or other benefits. Illinois DCFS has been to our house to inspect and interview everyone, and decided to leave our "fosters" with us due to the fact that they see each other daily, and have adjusted so well.
As of Oct. 2013 The young baby is taken to the e.r. for "hitting his head". The docs find bruising on baby, and since this is the 4th time he's been in with suspicious marks, the docs decide to call the state. The state does some digging on mom and discovers some previous unaccounted for injuries and loses all rights with her kids.
On Nov, 26 we all received in the mail a court date for the children to appear. thats all we know. Gossip says that normally when all kids have to appear, then more than likely we are going to have them taken away. Am I correct in assuming the worst?
We thought about getting character reference letters from local village pres., School principal- my wife and i are well known at school, business owners, etc. What can we do to help keep this boy with us? My knowledge on the subject is limited, and we have been flying by the seat of our pants so far.
Thanks for any and all help, and feel free to ask questions, and i will answer to the best of my ability.
