My question involves name change laws in the State of: Kansas. My daughter's father wants to change her last name. He wants to at least hyphenate her last name - which will result in her last name being 16 letters long. He isn't on the birth certificate but paternity has been established in court and he pays child support and such. The reason I don't want to change her last name is because he is not a citizen of the U.S.; he is only here on a student visa. There is no guarantee where he will be in 3 years or 5 years and I don't want her to have a last name of a man she won't grow up knowing if he doesn't stay in the U.S. What are the chances the judge will grant his request to either change her name to his or hyphenate it to include his?
