Default How Long Can I Stay in the U.S. After Filing I-407

I plan on voluntarily giving up my green card (as I will be permanently moving to another country) by filing the I-407. I understand that the best way to do so is to make an appointment with a local office and file the paperwork, have the interview, etc. I have a couple of questions that I don't see answered elsewhere:

    1. What is my status after I file the I407 in person and my green card is considered abandoned? How long can I stay in the US following that?
    2. Is there a way for me to obtain a visa for the US during the same session? I know many people do this in consulates outside the US, but can it be done when I visit a domestic office?

    Thanks in advance!

You should file the I-407, and return the documents you are required to return with that form, after you depart the U.S.
