Default Stealing from an Unlocked Vending Machine

My question involves juvenile law in the State of Texas. At my cousin's school there was a vending machine containing powerades for $1 and the machine was open so she decided to take one. The next there was a note saying that they were caught on camera. What will be her punishment? She is in highschool by the way.

Assuming that she has been charged, it depends on the full facts, the disposition, her age, and her home, school, community and prior criminal/law enforcement record.

and if it isn't clear, it doesn't matter if the machine was open, or if the drinks were setting on the floor, or any other place where it was convenient to take one without paying for it, taking property that does not belong to you is a crime.

She is 16, no criminal history, lives in a suburban area, and no prior trouble at the school. She hasn't been charged either.

Until she is charged, they're just blowing hot air. If she is charged, she should consult a lawyer. Otherwise, she needs to keep her juvie mouth shut about her criminal activity. Criminals should not go around calling attention to themselves.

Maybe anonymously paying for the drink may quell the issue.

put it a dollar in an envelope along with a note apologizing for the indescretion and have somebody else tape it to the machine in the same manner the "we saw you" note was.
