My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I am 22 years old and last night I was caught shoplifting at Wal-Mart. The total of the stuff was $23 worth. He took me into the room and took down my information on my license. However he did not get anything else (ssn, employer). This was my first time offense. I'm trying to figure out what is going to happen. I've read a few forums and other people said they had to sign a paper. He never had me sign anything. The only thing he said to me is that a paper will come in the mail and I have to pay a restitution few. It would most likely be $200. He never told me anything other than that and no cops were called. I'm worried because I have a job and am going to college. I wasn't sure if they were going to be notified. Also I was unsure if this was going to be put in my record. Can someone please help.
