My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin
This happened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I received a ticket for Retail Theft - Intentional Take =>$2500 and the ticket was not mandatory (meaning I didn't have to show up). All the lawyers I had free consultations with told me that this was a civil forfeiture (not a criminal offense) and that the ticket wouldn't show up on CCAP (Circuit Court Access Page).
So..... I plead no contest in court and it has been about a month later already. I checked the Wisconsin CCAP and it didn't show any indication of that citation in there and my criminal records came in clean from the FBI database.
So... since this citation wasn't considered a criminal act and more likely considered as a civil forfeiture, will this affect future employment?
The District Attorney told me if the future job applications asks if I was convicted of a Felony or Misdemeanor, I wouldn't have to check Yes to that, only if the application asked for ordinance violations.
Thanks.
